Constraining Dark Matter candidates from structure formation

چکیده
We show that collisional damping of adiabatic primordial fluctuations yields constraints on the possible range of mass and interaction rates of Dark Matter particles. Our analysis relies on a general classification of Dark Matter candidates, that we establish independently of any specific particle theory or model. From a relation between the collisional damping scale and the Dark Matter interaction rate, we find that Dark Matter candidates must have cross-sections at decoupling <∼ 10 −33 mdm 1MeV cm with photons and <∼ 10 −37 mdm 1MeV cm with neutrinos, to explain the observed primordial structures of 10 M⊙. These damping constraints are particularly relevant for Warm Dark Matter candidates. They also leave open less known regions of parameter space corresponding to particles having rather high interaction rates with other species than neutrinos and photons.

Constraining the strength of Dark Matter Interactions from Structure Formation
We discuss the damping of primordial dark matter fluctuations, taking into account explicitly the interactions of dark matter – whatever their intensity – both with itself and with other particle species. Relying on a general classification of dark matter particle candidates, our analysis provides, from structure formation, a new set of constraints on the dark matter particle mass and interacti...

In the current paper, we have studied the effect of dark energy on for-mation where dark energy exists in the background. For this purpose, we used both WMAP9 and Planck data to study how the radius changes with redshift in these mod-els. We used different data sets to fix the cosmological parameters to obtain a solution for a spherical region under collapse. The mechanism of structure formation f...
متن کاملConstraints on Dark Matter interactions from structure formation: Damping lengths
Weakly Interacting Massive Particles are often said to be the best Dark Matter candidates. Studies have shown that large Dark Matter-photon or Dark Matter-baryon interactions could be allowed by cosmology. Here we address the question of the role of the Dark Matter interactions in more detail to determine at which extent Dark Matter has to be necessarily weakly interacting. To this purpose, we ...
متن کاملConstraining the window on sterile neutrinos as warm dark matter
Sterile neutrinos may be one of the best Warm Dark Matter candidates we have today. Both lower and upper bounds on the mass of the sterile neutrino come from astronomical observations. We show that the proper inclusion of the neutrino momentum distribution reduces the allowed region to be 2.6 keV < m < 5 keV for the simplest models. A search for a spectral line with E = m/2 is thus more interes...

Several lines of evidence suggest that some of the dark matter may be nonbaryonic: the non-detection of various plausible baryonic candidates for dark matter inferred, e.g., from galaxy rotation curves and from cluster of galaxy velocity dispersions, the need for non-baryonic dark matter for theoretical models of galaxy formation, and the large discrepancy between dynamical measurements implyin...
